Of course I wasn't going to tell Nick that I was expecting his child. Why should I? Its not like he would care.
I drove to a friends house who lived in Pennsylvania—well I was hoping he still lived there. As I got to the door I heard noise coming from the back yard. I walked around he house and saw him working on a junker of a car.
"Hey, Jess," I said causing him to lift his head quickly and bang it against the hood of the car. [a/n: Jess from Gilmore Girls]
"Selena?" he asked in a bit of a shock.
I nodded to him and he ran to me and gave me a hug. He laughed as he said, "I havent seen you since we graduated. How are you?"
"Im doing good, how about you?" I replied.
"Better now," he smirked.
I blushed. He always knew the right things to say. Oh right, Jess and I were in high school together. I always suspected he had a crush on my but I never said anything about it. Now that your'e filled in lets get back to the story.
"Come in," he said as he guided me inside.
He washed his hands in the kitchen sink and poured us two glasses of lemonade.
"So what brings you here?" he asked.
"You were the only person I could really count on," I explained, "I had a fight with my boyfriend, well ex-boyfriend now, and I left. I couldnt think of anywhere else to go."
"Well you know youre always welcomed here," he said.
I smiled. I knew I could count on him. He showed me to my room and dismissed himself. Twenty minutes later I walked to the yard where he was still working on his car. He looked up at me and grinned.
"So how come you stopped writing to me?" he asked.
I didnt know how to respond, I just looked at the ground and bit my lip.
"I understand," he giggled, "people drift apart."
"I'm so sorry Jess," I said.
"Its okay beautiful," he replied.
I couldn't believe it, after all these years he still called me beautiful. I could feel my cheeks turning pink and I broke eye contact with him. He simply laughed.
"Did he do that to you?" he asked.
"Do what?" I asked.
"Your cheek," he replied.
"Oh ummm," I bit my lip, "something like that."
He nodded his head—he knew I was hiding something.
"So what do you want for dinner?" he asked breaking the oh so awkward silence.
"I'm really craving tacos," I smiled.
"Craving huh? Sounds like you might be pregnant," he joked.
I looked down at the ground, "I am."
