There was an acappella group called first the Cartoons fronted by John Milne, and then the Toons, back in the 70s. They decided to hire some musicians - a bassist, a guitarist, and a drummer. These three later continued as a trio and backup rhythm section for a number of acts around the San Francisco Bay area, The musicians involved were Gil Doyle on guitar, Bob Santa Cruz on bass, and drummer Mike Carey. All three were excellent vocalists, as well. Released on Rhino Records the album owes a huge debt to Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys, both in song construction, melodies and harmonies. And when they try something different with "Video Games", the first band to pop up in your mind is 10cc (I Wanna Rule The World). "So Far" was featured on the Rhino compilation History of Surf Music, Vol. III: The Revival (1980-1982)

  • Saw them perform live in the bay area in the early 80's...one of the band members told me they sent a copy of their LP to Brian Wilson, but never heard back...wish it would show up on CD.

  • great album and some great surf harmony vocals by the toons

  • Great song ... I had the album in the 80's and thought the Alien song was hysterical.

So Far is the best track on the LP. It is worth tracking down.
