March 22, my 26-year old Sears Hot Water heater died. What happened when I tried to buy a new one and install it myself is an object lesson in why Sears is hemorrhaging money.

Installing one is SO difficult;-) Cold water supply, hot water pipe, gas pipe, flue. You don't even need a match on the end of a long stick to light the pilot anymore; it's all push-button. Big whoop. I installed the old water heater, I did it with this one. I'll install the next one, if I live that long.

  • Wow..1956? You're older than my parents and you look about my age.

  • @BenB8290 Thanks:) I thank my parents every day for passing on their genes.

  • Why boil water, your heater only warms it to 130 degrees?

  • @AnthonyReikow69 When it's March and 25 degrees, boiled water cools off quickly.

  • @remastered1950ford At Sears Holdings these days, I fear "innovation" is selling Craftsman tools and Kenmore appliances at KMart. It's a scandal that they're closing all those stores so soon after getting a huge tax break from the Illinois General Assembly to keep their headquarters in Illinois.

  • you're an idiot... all your appliances are older then you!

  • @metsou10 Since I was born in 1956, I believe all my appliances would be... younger;) Have a nice day.

  • @artistmac Great reply!

  • @artistmac I have to give it to you, your wife must be very understanding. Kenmore is not made by any Sears affilate, what you have there is a Whirlpool rebranded, the same tank Lowes sells under the Whirlpool name. This is why Sears is going down, they don't have anything special to sell anymore. Walmart, Lowes, and Home Depot took their market share because the company got to top heavy with deadwood employees.

Sears subcontracts out all of their installations to third party companies. Crooks!

  • @artistmac Haha! Right on! Really funny story, by the way. The voices, the facial expressions..really funny.
