Styx mill country club swimming pool during Christchurch earthquake.
The magnitude 7.1 earthquake occurred at 4:35 am on September 4, the epicentre was 40 km west of Christchurch city, and the depth of the quake was at 10 km. The epicentre was close to the town of Darfield.

  • Impressive. I live in Bryndwr. 50 centimetres of water went over the edge of our pool in a wave that went through the fence and made it half way across the lawn. There was a clear debris line showing where it got to.

  • Yes, I had a similar wave out of my pool in redwood, the tidal wave reached the height of three stairs, 50cm sounds about right. Dam scary morning.

  • We live 4km from the Sept 4 faultline and our neighbours pool cleared the 6ft fence, just hitting the top foot or so, and killed the neighbours lawn!

  • Gessus.. thinking about us here in Canterbury, imagine if the quake hit 10 km off shore..like japan, nuts.
