And soulless certainly not. They all come from a rather respective musical background with the lead singer's father being a part of a 60's psych folk group called The Fathomes. With that musical upbringing; hence why their debut had that 60's era psychedelic rock feel. Seriously dude; don't knock them 'till you try them just because they are slightly popular. Listen to the instruments and song-writing. Everything is pieced together with such maturity and sincerity.
I like Megafaun a whole lot but Fleet Foxes are incredible. I get that they come across as trendy or whatever but their music is fantastically arranged and pieced together and their vocal harmonies are well executed too. Not to mention they have strong lyricism. Arguably the finest folk band we have in our generation. Nah, they aren't the problem. It's the likes of Mumford & Sons that are really dragging folk to the ground. Then again; it's all opinion (P.S I'm from Dublin too. :) )
I'm also glad to see they got some publicity while they were here! Music in Ireland is far too governed by trend. I'm going out of my bloody mind in Dublin hearing people rave about the same soulless, second rate shit. And it's not even local shit! I wouldn't mind if it was. It's fecking Fleet Foxes and assorted nonsense.
Have seen Megafaun twice now and am really enjoying their records. They've got real heart.
