Blockbuster Christmas commercial from 1990, the decade where they saw the majority of their expansion and success. Now, they are in their downfall and on the verge of bankruptcy, after pretty much dominating the VHS and DVD rental market for many years until new technology has made going to a store obsolete. The "Video" part of their name was dropped in the mid-90's, especially with their expansion into video games and other accessories.
Total Recall and All Dogs Go To Heaven fuck yeah!!!

I sure hope Blockbuster live on! Even if they don't, I'm sure small town video stores'll still be there! :)

I worked for a Blockbuster franchisee back then. We did not participate in that policy, and let's just say after that ad aired during the Super Bowl, people were livid. We had literature on the counter explaining in detail that we weren't participating. Cooler heads eventually prevailed but for a while, some customers were extremely irate; especially during a busy weekend rush.

@072972ification That's because Netflix collects their largest profit from obscure, non-mainstream movies. Which by anyone's standards (who has the ability to read PPF graph) makes way more money than a service that only offers new releases. Haha, your business prowess is about as sharp as fresh pile of crap, now resort back to juvenile insults and trolling youtube for hours on end.

Netflix raises prices about 60% And They Don't Have New Releases yet You Nit Blockbuster has every right to give customers 28 Days of New Releases. It's Because Netflix & Redbox are a Bunch of Cheapskates who don't give New Releases....You Numbskull I'll Moider You.

@mordecai322 Don't blame netflix, blockbuster had more than one chance to copy or create a service like netflix, but considered it an inferior service and never thought they would lose any of their 40 million customers. Blockbuster killed itself.

1990- Blockbuster is popping up all over the country.
2010- Blockbuster is closing down all over the country.
They're hanging on, barely. They will soon be extinct, and its not just Netflix, its Redbox and On Demand Movies to blame as well.
