Thanks for this info, I actually learned alot. Maybe I can get my tomatoes to be more productive. I had wondered about how deep you should be planting the tomatoes.

@tjar12 I think it really depends on the soil and location. And also personal preference. Whether in a trench, or down deep, they both can be very effective.

just wondering did the thickness of the stalks increase in size/girth?
I have always planted deep because i felt it helped protect them while they
hardened to the outdoors

@jethrob34 Pretty much all of my tomato stalks increase in size. It defies the laws of plumbing. If deep planting has been working, I wouldn't change a thing. :-)
