Vietnamese National Army

Ground force

Organized as a modern army the Ground Force included artillery, infantry, transmission and armoured cavalry units.

Airborne regiments including paratrooper "TDND" (Tieu Doan Nhay Du, "Commando Battalion"), the so-called 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th BAWOUAN, were later created. These elite units were referred as the "BPVN" (Bataillon de Parachutistes Viêt-Namiens, "Vietnamese Paratroopers Battalions") by their French allies. Some of these paratroopers were attached to the GCMA special forces.

Air force

The VNA air force first took part in the First Indochina War during the joint Operation Atlas in April 1953.[14] The aviation consisted of Morane Saulnier MS-500 reconnaissance planes and Douglas DC-3 and DC-4 transport aircraft useful in airborne operations.

Navy

The navy included amphibious vehicles such as Landing Craft Infantry, Landing Craft Mechanized, small craft and materiel.

Marine troops

The Marine Troops corps was modelled after the French Troupes de Marine. Their particular Navy blue uniform with white gaiters is still used by the French Fusiliers Marins.

Special forces

Special forces consisted of Vietnamese commandos trained by French officers in local schools. They used a whole different personnel, uniform, equipment, training and warfare compared with the regular airborne or infantry troops.

The GCMA airborne commandos (Groupe Commando Mixte Aéroporté, "Airborne Mixed Commando Group") were Vietnamese ethnic minorities or Laotian montagnard partisans led by paratrooper officers of the SDECE French intelligence agency. Some of them would be used as cadres in the North Vietnam Commandos (Commandos Nord Viêt-nam).

In 1951, French General de Lattre commander of the CEFEO ordered for the creation of the North Vietnam Commandos to Louis Fourcade. These remained operational until 1954 with Fourcade as the "Big Boss" (le Grand Patron) until June 21, 1953.

Their mission was to collect intelligence, perform hit-and-run ambushes and bring confusion in Viet Minh controlled areas (northern Vietnam) wearing enemy uniforms and using unconventional warfare such as guerrilla techniques. These were based on both, GCMA director and famous counter-insurgency theorician Roger Trinquier's experience as French Jedburgh in World War II, and on Viet Minh POWs collaboration.

@eddynguyen90 Thì mình có chê gì Việt Kiều đâu, Nhà nước nào chẳng có hạn chế, nước VN cũng là một nước đông dân, làm sao k có hạn chế được. Nhưng dù sao bạn cũng k nên chê bai nước ta như vậy, cứ cố gắng làm hết khả năng mình cho nước nhà là được rồi. :)

@jurokun05 ..okie đông ý....nhưng kì tích ko phải chủ yếu là nhờ người việt hải ngoại đổ tiền USD về để xây dựng đất nước sao. .bạn nghĩ xem vietnam xuất khẩu 1 năm được bao nhiêu hàng hóa ra nước ngoài ....ko có người việt hải ngoại gây áp lực lên washinton DC , rồi ủng hộ mua hàng việt tại mỹ để cho mỹ hợp tác kinh tế và quân sự thì vietnam có được ngày nay sao. cho nên bạn đừng bao giờ có thái độ kì thị người việt hải ngoại...mà hãy xem bản thân của các bạn có làm được ji cho vietnam chưa.

@eddynguyen90 Mình k ở trong quân đội, mình vẫn là 1 học sinh, mình k phải là đứa bê tha như bạn nghĩ nhưng đúng là mình vẫn phải sống với bố mẹ thật. VN k phải là nước mạnh, nhưng những gì VN đã làm được cho đến ngày hôm nay cũng là 1 kì tích rồi. Dù thế nào đi nữa, mình là người yêu nước, nếu chiến tranh nổ ra, mình sẽ đứng về phía dám đứng lên bảo vệ Tổ quốc, k kể đó là Chính phủ hay tổ chức nào khác.

When Viets can make our own weapons, we are totally independent. I am waiting for the day that we can stand up for anything by ourselves. Let's make our own Vietnam made weapons. Made our own spaceships, jets and bombs. Viets will get the full respectation for the enimies. God bless Vietnam.

@h4nv4nkUn bạn nói đúng. tuy thịt chó trên thế giới được cho là một trong những món ăn kinh dị nhưng với người việt nam thịt chó là đặc sản mà ko phải lúc nào cũng ăn được :( từ chó ghẻ, chó bẹc-dê, chó sứt mồm, lở đít khi quay lên đều thơm phức, chấm mắm tôm thì ngon hơn bất kỳ loại thức ăn nào trên đời, tuy nó hay sủa bậy và cắn trộm nhưng đôi khi nó cũng rất ngoan ngoãn nếu cho nó ăn thức ăn thừa thường xuyên. một khi nó đã phải đi ăn cứt thì nó hay sinh ra cáu kỉnh và khó tính :))
