Well I think I'm getting better at shouting... I've been practising for a while now and it must be getting to the point where my neighbours are wondering whether something is not right at home.

Anyway, here's another cracking song by Glen Hansard of the Frames/Swell Season. I have recently discovered his music and it feels like I've found my musical mecca. In the past I've written songs with the same theme as this but never got it right so this is the song I've wanted to write for ages, except that I didn't write it...

The vocal goes up to an A, which I generally consider out of my range but with the aid of Vocal Zone™ and a bit of practice I seemed to be able to blag it well enough. I stuffed up one of the chords but at least I got the shouting bit right for the most part... Also the light from the window made my head look thinner than it actually is: apparently it's something to do with Einstein's theory of Special Relativity where large masses (such as my brain) warp Space-Time and hence bend light. Or just a crap web-cam/bad video director.

Hope you enjoy it! Bye bye!

Song for Someone

Dryin' up in conversation, still
My head was halfway round the world
And workin' through the sleepin' hours
Driven by the promise of a quick return
And I wonder if she'll be the very same
And I wonder if she's gonna break the waves
Again...

Tryin' just to focus on the good
I'm tired of divin' for the pearls
And every dawn is another morning less
I have to wait to wake beside that girl
And I hope she's gonna be the very same
And I hope she can survive this way again

And if we're all for someone
And if we're born for someone
When will they come, that someone?
And put things in their place?

Comin' back to see you girl,
You know there's nothing surer in this world
Remember all the mad seasons
Back when we weren't young enough to wait our turn
And I wonder will we be the very same
And I we can survive this way again

And if we're all for someone
And if we're meant for someone
When will they come, that someone?
And put things in their place?

  • I'd like to hear you sing a Jeff Buckley tune. I think you have the right sort of tone for it.

  • Wow! I wish that were true! Even if I had the tone I certainly don't have the range... I have tried but singing Jeff Buckley usually results in me straining my vocal chords!
