THERE'S A STEPHEN MOORE VERSION?!?!?!?!?!
*Looks it up right now.....*

@QuixoticTendencies It's been the subject of a lot of intent debate. I suppose we won't know unless someone who's into necromancy decides to ask Adams...
-
@Altoclarinets Actually it was the character of Arthur that described him as manically depressed. It is entirely possible this was just an instance of Arthur's habit of getting his nomenclature wrong. Considering that Stephen Fry was a good friend of Adams, it's hard to believe Adams would get that particular term wrong.

@puddingball Douglas Adams described him as "manically depressed" in the books. However, this criticism of Adams' description appears often. It's possible that Adams had intended originally to give him manic phases and just never got around to it, and it's also possible that he just used the wrong term.
It's also mildly possible that he meant it in an entirely other sense- Marvin is so depressed that his obsession over the nuances of his state constitute a mania for him.

manically depressed? I can't seem to remember even once when Marvin seemed cheerful, let alone manic XD
I think you meant chronically depressed

Yeah, they redid it for the movie's soundtrack
