Not yet finished! The characters appear on a temporary background of someone's house, and do not move. This is just a rough test to show the lip sync.

These animated segments recreate scenes from lost 1960s episodes of the legendary British science fiction series starring William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton.

Clips from Doctor Who, The WhoSprites Project - The Ice Warriors.

Starring Peter Barkworth as Leader Clent.

Animation by Garrett Gilchrist.
Orange Cow Productions, Los Angeles, CA.

Garrett drew, directed and animated all material seen here. He is available for hire.

Garrett Gilchrist's animation work has been profiled in The Guardian (UK newspaper), SFX Magazine and the WIRED Magazine blog, and screened on the big screen by the Kaleidoscope organization.

  • the background doesnt really fit the scene, it doesnt look like they are fighting a glacier through that sunny window. the animation of the doctor and clent is excellent though.

  • @klisher Thank you. The background is temporary.

  • Wow! how did you do this? what program do you use?

  • I draw the characters with a pen [these days, it's a fine point Sharpie], and refine/color them with Photoshop. I use Final Cut Pro for editing and lip sync, and although there's none in this clip I do my body animation in Moho (which is now Anime Studio).

  • Dammmmmn you guys are impressive. You should do a Buffy cartoon. Just sayin' ;)

**Check out our short films, we have something for everyone!**

  • Not "guys" - just me, Garrett Gilchrist. Hi. I am a big fan of Buffy. I'd gladly do a cartoon if paid, and if the original actors were involved. =) I'd probably do it in more of a "Batman: The Animated Series" style, though. This style of animation is one I developed specifically for Doctor Who.

  • I have to admit, the facial articulation IS very impressive.

Only flaw is how rigid their bodies appear. Its kind of unnerving. But I know that was never the point. Just saying. But the point here is testing the lip sync, and in that regard, it passes the test with flying colors

  • more please....i love it.

  • Awesome sauce.

  • Have you tried rotoscoping the animation? I would love to do some scene reenactions for rotoscoping - it would make for more fluid animation, like with "The Waking Life".

  • @ocpmovie thats ok i could easily watch the missing episodes in this format. why dont you use wallace (of wallace and gromit) for peter sallis...i dare you ☺

  • the bbc are shooting themselves in the foot by not re-animating the missing episodes for release on dvd.

  • COOL!
