Note that the valve gear is modelled "in gear" with motion imparted to the valve spindle by both the crosshead/comination lever and by the return crank/expansion link/radius rod. Look out around the front valve-chest extension for the movement of the cosmetically modelled outer parts of the 2:1 lever linkage to the middle cylinder's valves.
