How sad that Ukrainians are abandoning their beautiful musical roots in favor of Western vulgarities like cRap "music".

Brings back such wonderful memories of growing up in Ukitown (lower east side NYC) in the late 60s.

What a wonderful heritage we have! It is a shame how the younger, 2nd and 3rd generations of disporia is not as interested in their roots. That is the situation here in Florida, at least. I try to put as many of these videos in front of my child as possible.

@halinkamalinka8 ...I remember those times well. I put it down to the amount of vodka that was consumed, but I could never forget my Ukrainian roots. The older I get the prouder I get! Good times.

thesame song is on an old Folkways recording compiled by Henry Cowell, on behalf of the Smithsonian, USA. As a kid, I used to listen to this in our local library (NJ) & had a strange obsession to this music! Here I am, 40 yrs later listening to it on YouTube! I would travel to Ukraine just to hear this.

With Ukrainian songs, it's not the medium, it IS the message. Often, beautiful voices and beautiful multi-part harmony. Other times, you sing with whatever voice you have, because you just must sing.

I love these songs. I grew up in Manitoba's Interlake in the 50's but still remember the weddings, furnerals where the older folks broke into song. Lovely memories.
I feel like I am at a Ukie wedding in the disporia in the 60's and 70's. As kids we use to complain when the "old ladies and men" would start singing during the band's breaks...now It makes me melancholy and wish I could see some of those
old timers again.
