July 2006 Big Bear Lake, CA (Baldwin Lake). VERY close lightning Strike. That tower in the background is the KBHR 93.3 Radio Tower. Watch the second part in Slow Motion to see the actual Bolt. Pretty Cool.

  • I appreciate the ga-zillon comments. All I can tell you is that what you see here I caught on my little A30 Cannon Digital Camera (in video mode). There is NOTHING doctored up at all. The second half is slow motion (using power director) and thats it. If I wanted to doctor up some lightning video I could do a really good job.

  • That was very close! If you look closely it actually hit the hillside. Nice capture.

  • Like others have said, that was a streamer. They are only visible to us through a camera lens. Our eyes cant pick it up on their own. They have a couple different names. Wikipedia uses Stepped Leader and also Positive Streamer to explain it. Many of them shoot upward before each strike. Theyre harmless except the 1 that the charge in the cloud chooses to be the main bolt. The rest get rejected. You have to hope the one you film never gets picked or youll be in trouble lol.

  • To bad you camera has slow image prosesing.

  • That was a ghost refection, the real lightning being either off to the side of your location or behind you. There was over a second between the strike and the sound of it meaning that is was about a quarter mile away or better, and if you lost power at the instant of the strike, it hit a local powerline somewhere.

  • Stashdash lightining can be way worse too. I'm not saying ur wrong, but it depends what kind of tornado it is like an EF-1 tornado really can't do much damage to a house for example because of it's windspeeds!! But u were right, a tornado can be very dangerous! Like an EF-3 could be worse than lightining ONLY because the speed which Is about 150mph or 160mph. Try searching it on google or something, it will tell u which is worse

  • Holy $h** u were like right there when it happened!!!! I bet u it was loud man

  • hmmm slow fps camera or single stroke negative lightning strike. hmmm

  • dude tornados are worse, i mean lightning is crazy too but still tornados have very strong winds which means on top of that dont forget theres a thunder storm on top of that with the tornado!!!

  • pause at 0:03

  • ya, sounds like god is taking a huge fart! lol!
