at Pagosa Springs, this Labor Day weekend. From the just held Pagosa Springs 4 Corners Festival. Sat. late night jam with the Belleville Bearface Crooked Punchdusters. You'll see many familiar faces here and I'll be naming names as I'm able; fiddle break is Phoebe Hunt(The Bellville Outfit, Brittany Haas (Crooked Still), and Odessa Jorgensen( Biscuit Burners) banjo thruout by Chris Pandolfi, mando by Thile and Jesse Cobb and Jason Norris (an mazing mandoist from the band Bearfoot). Of course, the IBMA nominated Andy on dobro, and the soon to be nominated Andy on guitar, along with Mike Mickelson (Bearfoot). Also an interesting guitar solo from a local pro whose name I know someone from Durango or thereabouts will EMail to me.

  • Very crappy video, out of focus, poor angles, etc coupled with bad audio, no mixing, poor miking, bad use of a large diaphragm condenser....but...incredible musicians playing with great intensity overcome all of these shortcomings. These are the young lions and lionesses that are just starting to ROAR! Four stars and I look for more.

  • Well, I'm still glad I posted this but I'm very sorry you got to see it. You are rude person and that all was overly mean. Please don't watch that or any other of my videos. Thank you. Tom Novak

  • Hey Tom, Mr. 'mean and rude' here. We are producing a concert with Bearfoot and Solas this Monday,Oct.12th,2009 in the Washington,DC area If you can make it to our show, I will guest you plus one in .These are two of my favorite bands and my comments were aimed at the concept of "even in not the most optimal setting, their music shines" And yes, I am aware of the festival environment making it difficult to get the best filming and audio situations. Hope to meet, greet, treat you to a fab show!

  • I actually thought that might be the case after some reflection. I think it was a case of 'the truth hurts'. Thank you for your thoughtful and gracious response to MY 'meanness'. I'll look into the group, Solas, of whom I'm unfamiliar. And thank you for the generous invitation. Tom Novak

  • Lots of changes since Sept '08. Chris and Aoife had played for the Obama's at the Denver convention, and just a few weeks ago, followed him on the Tonight Show with Yo Yo Ma. Crooked Still is on hiatus for a year, Mike Mikleson, Odessa, and Kate are no longer with Bear Foot, (Kate runs the kids camps at Pagosa and Rocky Grass, and Mike is fishing in Alaska), Belleville Outfit has disbanded, and Jess Cobb has retired from The String Dusters.

(please add any other changes I've left out).

  • Glad to see this is still up. Great night of music, and, while the stage was full, so was the Beer Tent, and 3 rows deep outside, and it rained half the time. The 'local' guitar player is Robin Davis, who has his own band in Durango, Waiting On Trial. I've heard that some folks refer to this session simply as "The Rave". I was sitting right next to Tom the whole time, and I think I ruined a couple of cuts by screaming like a little girl. Sorry Tom. Ciskoe

  • There is an old show biz axiom. "If there are more people on the stage than in the audience you don't go on".

    Looks pretty crowded. : )

  • @motnovak Hey Tom... I hope you enjoyed Solas! One of my favorites. Thinking of them with Bearfoot sounds like too much fun!

  • Awesome!

  • So sweet and lovely! These people are plainly having immense fun!

  • This is a great video of some of my favorite musicians. Chris Thile is an old favorite of mine (Nicklecreek) and Bearfoot, especially Odessa, is a fairly new favorite ( I heard Bearfoot at Four Corners Fest years ago, before Odessa joined the group). I always love the fact that some virtuous soul (Tom Novak) is willing to take his video camera and film an entire song, in spite of crowded festival conditions. Thank you, Tom Novak.

  • who is that on dobro?

  • P.S. Tom - Solas is playing Four Corners this year, so you'll get to hear them. They're incredible.
