Banged up the Pitts Special on her first maiden attempt. My thoughts: Tail heavy-ness caused her to climb rapidly on takeoff. when I backed off the throttle and tried to drop nose a bit she tip stalled to the left and could not be recovered to the right. Once she was headed for the only building around I cut power, causing a stall in from about 15ft.

She is fixed up and will be ready to remaiden the weekend of August 1st, 2009. Video of 2nd attempt to follow.

  • @blitzfultime lol... sure. That's helpful.

  • Yeah. I cut power when I realized I didn't have control, she stalled, and I had even less control... lol. Had more problems with her when the motor threw a magnet. I gave her to a friend of mine... maybe one day it will get worked out.

  • Thanks. She's all patched up and ready to retry. CG was WAY off. Fortunately for me FFF is easy to fix.

  • Sorry to see the crash. Which Pitts ARF is this as its looks great ? Is there an easy batter hatch or do you use A123 batts to charge installed ? Btw, WAY tail heavy and the rates an HR were to much for a Pitts IMHO, Also pretty windy when there is enough wind to blow the pitts backwards and also, check the chanel colour flag on your TX.. You had a bif cross wind there. Anyway, thanks for posting and better luch next time.

  • im no expert but i think it was just a little too windy. should have took off with the wind in your face not your back, i would have waited for another day it fly

  • probably wasnt windy enough

  • wow man listen to that wind. your crazier than me! as soon as you were not going directly into the headwind it was all over

  • Sounded like you pulled power last few seconds, thus the tip stall....
