Her body memories smell of durian, forgetfulness and all the events that connect trees to sorrow.
Salt Fish Girl 1 tells the story of Miranda, a young woman who is filled with the memories of people and events that occurred before she was born. Like small shards of glass from a broken statue, Miranda carefully begins putting these memories together in an attempt to understand why she is having them and how they are linked to her present day sorrow. Set simultaneously in 19th century China and a futuristic British Columbia, the past and future mingle together as if they had always existed at the same time.
Salt Fish Girl Part 1: Hope and Forgetfulness marks the first full-length contemporary integrated arts collaboration between Gein Wong, Aries Cheung and Emily Cheung. Bringing together artists with backgrounds in dance, music, theatre and the visual arts, each discipline is beautifully melded together to create a synergistic and wholistic work. The performance will incorporate elements of Chinese and western art forms, including cutting-edge motion sensing technology that enables a dancer to make music and a musician to create visual art, in order to create an invigorating stage adaptation of this prophetic science fiction novel.
