Your very welcome. My father use to say that as he was running away from it, pieces of fire were falling from the sky and some were landing very close to him. My father had access to the Hindenberg because his father was a Captain in the Marines who was stationed at the Naval air base, and so his family had a special pass to the grounds. I have that pass among his stuff and have pictures on my facebook, but you tube won't seem to allow me to post the link to it. RJ Walker

Anyone understand what his last few words were? All I can make out are the last 2 words....fucking wrecking? As many times as I have seen this in school, tv, or wherever, I never picked up on those last couple words until now

The letter was brief , but here's what is says about the Hindenburg " I was right there (at Lakehurst, NJ). I went over with my children and they got out of the car and they were almost under the Hindenburg. I had nightmares-night after night- after seeing that. That was the most tragic thing I ever saw. Because these people were just about to land and they were just burnt up". I am putting photos of my fathers Hindenburg stuff on face book and will try to post some link to it. RJW

I'm so sorry to hear about your father's death. My grandmother also died on November 25. It was in 1999, on Thanksgiving. That has always been a hard day for our family. Thank you for replying. Gee, I would give anything to read that letter. What a piece of history.

My father just recently passed away, (Nov..25), but he talked about it frequently over the years. I don't recall my father saying he had nightmares, but my grandmother sure did. I have a letter she wrote about the event saying she had night mares about it for a week or two. She had told her two children to stay by the car, but they both went out on to the field and were practically underneath it when it exploded. . I now have his personal hindenburg items in my possession. RJW
