Leah Gia was living the life of a normal 19 year old girl, working to save money to move out of her house to pursue an independent lifestyle. Typical for her age, she has a lot of friends, great energy, and is loved by many people: from her family, to people that have only met her once. She is bright and happy and still maintains that regardless of the unfortunate circumstances that have put her in a wheelchair. On September 22, 2011, Leah Giammarva was severely injured in an automobile accident in Marietta GA. ( http://www.eastcobber.com/marietta-police-department-investigates-serious-inj... ) The incident has left her paralyzed, category C7- complete spinal chord injury. From her armpits down, she has no physical feeling, or ability to move. She was treated at The Shepherd Center in Atlanta, one of the best facilities in the nation for that kind of treatment, and she just graduated from her rehab and was sent home for good. Although she has coped very well with this, the expenses keep piling up. Unfortunately, only some of her medical expenses are covered by her insurance, while many things that are necessary for her are not covered by insurance such as the wheel chair she will require. (racking up a hefty $4300) After doing considerable research, the path she's chosen to take is to pursue Stem Cell Treatment. Looking into facilities that offer this treatment, we've come across a large inconvenience because there are no facilities that offer that treatment in North America. We've found a highly advanced facility in Panama that, in only 4 short weeks, can provide her with the best treatment she can receive. The treatment cost is only 30,000 (which is moderately priced for the type of procedure) but is also not covered by her insurance. We, her team of 3 soon-to-be certified nursing assistants feel that, although controversial, Stem Cell treatment would provide the most rapid and conclusive effects for her. At her level of injury, it is one of the few things that could really allow her to walk again, and allow her to live a normal life. In an effort to raise money for the proper treatment and equipment she will need, we ask you to please help in any way you see fit. Absolutely any contribution will be regarded as a huge help. Also, anything we raise on the various fundraising sites will be matched, to the dollar, by her family. We ask you to spread the word to your friends and family and help us provide her with the treatment she deserves. Thank you for any help you are willing to give.
