So beautiful!!!!!! Brings tears to the eye at the same time it brings joy to the soul. She was SUCH a consumate artist. I am completely enthralled.

Yes, this is the best version, indeed! Anderson's voice is not only capable of the deepest low notes, but it's also still tender and gentle, beautiful and warm, managing to sound feminine even in the lowest notes. Besides, she not only sings the thrilling notes perfectly, she also gives them great depth of meaning. The best contralto ever IMO.

Marion Anderson 's version is a miracle---gentle and goosbumpy and just shocking in the meaning to the last sound -- with the death, you watch the girl fall asleep....
