NO NO guys that's not what this poem is about!! The poem is about how it doesn't matter what you do in your life... just who you do with it. The most simple things in life, like drinking a coke, can be an incredible experience if you do it with the right person. The artists tried so hard to create beautiful paintings and sculptures, but they never got the right person to be in their pieces. And that's all that matters in an experience; the person, not what you did.

You are wrong, a poem is often about specific events in the context of the poets life. Percy Shelley's 'Mask of Anarchy' was a response to the Manchester riot, Wilfred Owen's Dulce et Decorum est is the recounting a first hand experience depicting the inglorious reality of war.

You are confused because poems can make you feel, but you are limited by your knowledge and experience of the subject.

most of the time, a poem is "about" more than one thing and that's not to say it's about one thing for each person who reads it, but more than one thing for each person, each time they read it, at different times in their life.. this is true for the poet, as well. trying to assert that a poem is "about" any one thing is just a waste: of time, of the poem, of the effort.

i hope you get my point.

I absolutely adore this poem, and it seems to take on a greater immediacy with O'Hara himself reading it. But, I must say, I do find his terrible comb-over to be quite distracting.

Poem's like this make you contemplate about love. It's so beautifully powerful. My favourite poem ever. If a guy read this to me, I'd melt on the spot.
