That's in there because the movie starts in Irau where an archeological team, let by Father Lanchester Merrin, The Exorcist, finds relics that portend the coming evil. Tell you what, I'll call for William Friedkin to apologize for using this when you call for Hamas, Al Qeda, Islamic Jihad, etc to apologize for salughtering innocent civliians, How's about that?

Actually "stuff jumping out" is a jump cut which is more startling than scary and one of the cheapest stunts in directing. The Exorcist IS scary because it works on you slowly and is psychologically terriflying. That kind of fright is more long lasting. It's easy to make someone jump. To terrify a whole nation (as this film did) that's REAL direction.

Its really not that scary. I watched it for the first time yesterday. I thought stuff was going to pop out at you, i was expecting a really scary scenes where everything is quite and suspenseful and your waiting for something to pop out. There was nothing scary at all.

Other then a few faces that they made pop up, that really didn't scare me.

The movie is more interesting then scary.
