Just finishing up drilling a piece of cast iron to make some piston rings for an air compressor. I'm drilling the hole so I can get the boring bar in and finish the ID of the rings.

  • I hope you are wearing a face mask when cutting cast iron. When I was making live steam locos I found I was covered in a grey dust when using this material.

  • @bbcisrubbish Just my safety glasses, the cast iron does make a mess, and can be a mess in the CNC with coolant too. Brass comes off in the same way, but not as dirty as cast.

  • Jesus, you are turning too fast for that drill size......

  • It's running at 122 RPM, I thought that too, but the drill seemed to cut the best at 122 RPM, it does look like it's spinning fast in the video.

  • @londontrialscat On cast, not really, . . .

  • Erm...cutting fluid would be a good idea.
