In this Introduction of an upcoming film and an interview with the Writer and Director Cherien Dabis, Saqib Ul Islam talks about her auspicious debut feature, Amreeka a warm and lighthearted film about one Palestinian familys tumultuous journey amidst the cultural fallout of Americas war in Iraq.
Cherien talks about how she has been thinking about spreading the word about her own experiences growing up in America after the gulf war. Amreeka not only portrays the confusion of first-generation teenagers caught between their parents ethnic heritage and the Western world in which they live but also glows with the truth and hardships of everyday life of one immigrant single mother and signals the arrival of an exciting new directorial talent too.
