Merry Christmas & Happy Chanucka 2008 from Amadea!

A live performance in Berlin of the Israeli folk song - Jerusalem of Gold - written by Naomi Shemer. Amadea (Contralto) is accompanied by Frederick on an authentic David's Harp, which was hand-made in Jerusalem. The David's Harp has been made in the same exact way as it would have been made 3,000 years ago in the time of King David.

The performance took place live in the Sankt Marien-Liebfrauen Church on December 20, 2008.

Here is an English translation of the Hebrew lyrics:

The mountains' air clear like wine and the smell of pines,
Flies in the wind of the twilight with the voice of echoes,
And in the deep sleep the tree and stone rest in a dream,
The city which in life sits and its heart is within a wall.

CHORUS:
Jerusalem of gold and of brass and of light,
There is nothing like your song, "I am a violin."

We return to the cisterns of water to the market and to whatever,
The Shofar calls in the mountain of houses in the old city,
In the caves which are forever remembering thousands of sunsets,
And again falling asleep at the sea of the Kings on the way to Jericho.

CHORUS.

Surely I am coming to sing to you today for you bind circles,
I was made smaller from the marching of your sons and from the last of our enemies,
Because your name is burning in our consciousness like the kiss of an angel,
With the peacefulness of Jerusalem there will be happiness for the wholeness (completeness) of gold.

CHORUS

  • Just Beautiful voice, your choice of all your music is just first class

  • If she's a mezzo then I'm a soprano....and I'm a tenor!

  • lovely. The harp is a great addition.

  • You have a very nice voice and the harp player is wonderful. My only suggestion would be to sing this a little bit faster to bring a little more life to the song. :)

  • Just on thing, which seems to me arguable: the "authentic David's harp" seems very much to be a celtic/irish harp. typically built with a curvy pillar. Anyone desagrees? Give me your feedback.

    Thanks.

  • Lovely in its simplicity, great feeling! And yes, she is an alto or contralto.

  • Contralto

  • Beautiful Voice. I'm singing along to this song! :) Soprano! :)

  • Hauntingly beautiful!

  • Not only your voice, but your heart is heard in this song. There is many, many more in it than beautiful performance. It isn't to skill nor to copy. Thank you for showing a part of your soul.
