Tried to catch middle-sized trout (about 20 cm / 8" ) I could SEE feeding in merely ankle-deep water.

Now look at this! I'm presenting them my great artificial plastic stuff, and they boldly go for the real thing right in front of my feet. They're definitely NOT human ; )

My nymphs were eyed but eventually ignored.

I didn't carry any bait, so I attempted to catch small grasshoppers, but to no avail. There weren't any fishermen in sight that could've helped out with night crawlers, either. Would've been an opportunity to test Uncle Steve's working hypothesis on trout. Instead, I went home thoroughly skunked.
