Maybe SteppenWolf first said HEAVYMETAL, but BLACK SABBATH made it so. So many other bands have them to thank for crossing the line. You guys are the metal GODS!!!!!!!!!!

@superfartdog I ain't saying led zeppelin didn't inspire anyone in metal. But i can guarantee you that most musicians in metal now im talking about metal not def leppard or some hair band from the 80s that they was inspired more heavily from sabbath than led zeppelin. And as far as metal riffing sabbath was way ahead of led zeppelin cream or even hendrix when it comes to raw metal guitar riffs.

When it comes to heavy metal, there’s Black Sabbath and then there’s … everybody else. With a sonic blueprint defined by down-tuned guitars, crawling tempos and singer Ozzy Osbourne’s distinct vocals, Sabbath influenced not only countless other bands but even entire metal sub-genres, from doom metal to thrash. They’ve sold more than 100 million records worldwide, with their self-titled debut and its follow-up ‘Paranoid’ frequently ranking among the most influential metal albums of all time.

@Voltron1774 Led Zeppelin weren’t heavy metal per se, but their heavy, blues-based rock sound certainly was a major influence on the genre. Although Zeppelin dabbled in many different musical styles, the lumbering, hard-hitting grooves of ‘Good Times Bad Times’ and ‘Dazed and Confused’ off their eponymous debut certainly paved the way for metal. The same could be said by the way for bands like Cream, Jimi Hendrix and even the Beatles — if for nothing more than ‘Helter Skelter.'

@CreeMetis Zep got criticized a ton too, and they're all being listened to and praised, and a lot of teens do know who robert plant is, they're both fckin awesome bands, both legends, both helped pave the way, now can we shut up about who started what and just enjoy the badassery?

On the back of the Black Sabbath album, with the names of the producers and the band members, Ozzy Osbourne's nickname (Ozzy) is spelled "Ossie". No Shit. I just thought that that was interesting.

In the late 1960s, three legends were born.
One from the sea,
One from the sky,
And one from the fiery pits of hell.
These three great ones went by the names of
Deep Purple
Led Zeppelin
and Black Sabbath.
I have heard of such legends, but I never believed them to be true until I hit play.

Just to set the record straight led zeppelin was formed in 1968 and sabbath in 69. So led zeppelin didn't pave the way for sabbath for shit. While they was playing communication breakdown black sabbath was playing songs off this very album. Which was way ahead of zeppelin far as rock/blues progressing into metal. And led zeppelin was way more mainstream than sabbath. So like i said before John Bonham got alot more noticed than say Bill Ward from sabbath specially after him dying. BUT
