  • Read the book first. Others films & TV versions (esp. - Orson Welles, Timothy Dalton, Toby Stephens) stayed true to the novels’ intensity & characters's nature w/ logical alterations. It was an insult to Michael Fassbender's talent not to give him the opportunity to explore the darkest/deadliest corners of Rochester's psyche - He is capable e.g. HEX, Hunger, Angel. Wasikowska's was unable to bring forth a mature, complex yet seeking character. This omitted too much, more time was needed.

  • @louisanna30 - I disagree with your review. I think you are honing in, to notice that Michael Fassbender did not explore all sides of the character. The main point of movie is that it is so faithfully seen from Jane's point of view. So, if Jane does not see the dark side of Rochester, than the movie does not depict that side. I think it is genius, and not a flaw. Fassbender was brilliant in letting Mia shine. And, he also showed sublime moments of charm, & explored moodiness & depression.

  • @louisanna30 P.S. - So, if you admire the book and other versions so much, did you see my attached video? It is my study in what is it that gets us about Jane Eyre. Hope you will watch and rate. Thanks, Kimberly

  • This movie was absolutely stunning to me. Everyone has a fixed idea of Jane and Rochester, so of course some people are going to hate this movie whereas others (such as I) are going to see it as a their favorite adaption and others will be in the middle. But I thought Fassbender brought a sarcastic edge to Rochester that made him unlikeable, but believable. And the scene after the aborted wedding was BEAUTIFUL to me. Mia delivered Jane perfectly in my eyes...she made her subtle yet strong.

  • @iwilder - I am not really a nag it just that the first man I fell for was Rochester then Heathcliff, go figure. Mia did not do it for me at all. We won't agree on these points which is kool. I just watch 83 again. ahhhh! Will watch the attach vid, we may have more common ground there. Farewell, for the present.

  • @iwilder - i don't fault Fassbender, he was following orders. The novel, Jane's perspective, did see dark sides; frustrations, moods, anger etc before realizing it was a defense mechanism much later in their interactions (when she felt free to tease him). 83 & 06 did well to portray this (not 96 so much). The idea is balance, ruthlessness/vulnerability. Maybe dir. cut. which is longer will have more content - finger cross.
