Just a quick vocal test featuring the Shure SM57 mic that I rented today. The whole thing is completely unrehearsed so there's definitely mistakes but it's not meant to be anything glamorous.

  • i like to record electric guitar but i dont know a good mic to record from my amp. any recommendations?

  • @DFMerlino there's quite a few you can play around with and see which one(s) you like... Shure SM7b, ElectroVoice RE20, Shure SM57, Sennheiser MD421, Sennheiser E835. There's some pretty cheap yet decent sounding Apex, Nady and CAD microphones as well.

Usually, for mic-ing guitar cabs, you wanna go with dynamic microphones.

  • do you think that sm57 is good for vocals and acuostic guitar (not ampli) ?

  • @musicheggiante If you are just starting out, yes. But there are some other options out there to consider as well. There are some inexpensive USB Condenser mics like the Audio-Technica AT2020 or Apex 440 that can give you a more open sound than the SM57. Or some kits like the Sennheiser E-Pack E835 which includes a great dynamic microphone (a lot of people consider it superior to the Shure SM57/SM58), an XLR cable and one of the best german made mic stands out there.

  • I was hoping the SM57 was going to be a good mic for vocals as well as instruments :) You have a really nice voice, and I like the MJ picture on the wall :D

  • @Roxie23x Yep, for the money, the SM57 is a great mic. You'll just need a pop filter or foam windscreen like the one I used in the video and you'll be set.

  • @skatastic2 Hey, thanks. What do you mean? There's no autotune on here. I don't use it.

  • I can't believe that I hadn't thought of youtubing sm57's before. I've been using one on stage and in jam for a few months now and love it... but all I get is the same old shit, "You don't know what you're doing, that's an instrument mic." My response usually entails, "YET I SOUND BETTER THAN YOU!?"

    Bleh.

  • @Wessel99 Also, nobody records in stereo. They record two mono tracks and then pan the two. Well, not nobody, people rarely record in stereo.

  • @Wessel99 Get a condenser mic.

  • After finding out through the comment's that this wasn't the mic I need I still watched the video to hear you sing. You have a great voice man. Keep it up.

  • when i record something with my sm57 i only get MONO Sound can you please help me (i want stereo sound)

  • @alexn882 yes, i'm just starting! I'm looking for a good microphone both for vocals & acoustic/classic guitar (not amplified), recording in the same time.

    Thanks for reply!

  • @skatastic2

............do you know what autotune is?
