  • Wow both so different, and so nice. Amazing phrasing of Mr.Catherine, and what a nice sound...

  • aside from terrific playing, Catherine has a great tone, humbuckers sound much better with roundwounds.

  • @HendrixcommaMartin yeah your right. It took me a while to concretely convince myself

  • @jonnyrokr I don't think there's anything vague about it, I think it's just Autumn Leaves.

  • ok i hear the ending :)

  • is this a very vague take on autumn leaves?

  • both brilliant

  • @gr0mithtimon As for that book recommendation of yours,I've already heard of it.It is just I'm not yet ready for it.You can't "study biochemistry before you fully master the organic chemistry",if you know what I mean.I tried to write a baroque style contrapunctal piece once and I couldn't get pass the third bar...It just "jumped" into more of a romantic style of composition...Nothing strange, since I'm not much of a composer, but still...To write a fugue is a master craft. At least for many ppl.

  • @gr0mithtimon Wow! Thanx for the info. I knew it was some kind of counterpoint and I am aware of the fact that counterpoint isn't used just in baroque music, but I was really stunned to see that improvisation headed in that direction. You know, first they are playing bebop and I visualized myself a jazz club full of cigarette smoke and black people drinking hard liquor, and then...BAM!...I found myself in a evangelic church, somewhere in rural Austria (it's the fall of 1735)...

The us of "imitative counterpoint" -- multiple voices simultaneously playing the same theme or variations on it -- is consider typical of Baroque music. As you noted, these gents use the same technique here, thought in a more simple manner. If you want to find out more, I recommend listening to and reading about "Die Kunst Der Fuge" by J.S. Bach. This set of fourteen pieces explores the possibilities of imitative counterpoint in full (as does other music by the same composer)..
