Killer! Thanks.

I have to be honest, I've never even heard of Gisbert, but that is one sick solo he just took. WOW! What a flight....

Symphonic jazz masterpiece, sorely wounded by the trumpet's first 2/3 of his participation

Almost Speechless.

Yeah Gisbert, you monster.

Maria!!

I played alto 2 on this song at UW-Eau Claire last year. There's been no creative experience in my life to match it yet. What a masterpiece.

@shuki09 I don't think your age and the dates of WW1 overlap.

This boggles my mind. After all the juke box music, music amplified to make up for lack of content, music lacking dynamics, and so much more that has made me pessimistic about the direction, I am reborn with wonder and awe at this bright lady. Yes, there is a god in heaven and I have heard the echo of his music in the distance. I promise I'll be listening to more of Maria Schneider.

La SOLEÁ que dije existe en esta pieza, se puede considerar mejor como BULERIAS POR SOLEA. al ser una soleá algo más rápida que la soleá propiamente dicha , que es algo más lenta.

I'm 78 years old. listened to American Forces Radio Jazz in Europe WW1 as a boy. Grew up with all the big bands, Ellington /Stan Kenton Miles Davis etc. and then heard this on my car radio 3 years ago and it stunned me, I had to pull up on the side of the road. I bought the disc. Maria's music is the greatest I ever heard. So exciting. I wish she would do a concert here downunder.

Those of you in 'the know' and with tastes for modern European jazz will know that Maria has here been heavily influenced by the compositions and big-band arrangements of British based Kenny Wheeler. Kenny has employed Norma Winstone's voice in his arrangements for decades.
No criticism of Maria's work intended. Her work is immaculate in its conception.
