Navajo poet/writer/journalist Rutherford Ashley recites his poem, "Gifts From The Rood of Hajinei..." Aka, "Ford" is Hush'clishnii and born for Ta'ba'hi. Ford Ashley resides on the Navajo reservation in Fort Defiance, Arizona, and is currently working on a new manuscript. Ford aims at "slice of life" type of things that value the creative process. FYI: I wrote this poem as a Navajo version of this early nordic oral poem called "The Dream Of The Rood (Reed)" and it is basically the same thing as the Navajo emergence story, in concept and power--regardless of what others may say. I'm all about seeing the common ground. Peace. --RA
