I made this to give an impression of the 7 hour war during the the events between hl1 and hl2.

Combine assault force was far superior to the forces of earth. But after they were finished, they don't need all these military power to remain do they?

Remaining forces on earth was merly a police force. While the main bulk of the COmbine army is probably somewhere else, on another world : demolishing it.

There's a few hl1 7 hour war refrences like at the end when you don't accept the gmans offer he says,"I can offer you a battle you have no chance of winning, or resting after what you just survived." so what exactly is that battle?

@TheTenderestMeat The Combine, or Universal Union, is a race that is very highly involved in technology and strips other races of technology to use with the Combine. The Combine have a collection of many races, like the covenant on halo for egsample but not as small as the covenant. The Combine have vast majoritys of Alien Races and the ones sent to earth were a police force. Khyron56 exclusively states that they arent the real combine, but there bulk of the force was there invading earth.

@TimothyParadox1 we were taken by extreme surprise when the combine were much stronger in tactics,they unleashed a whole army at once overwhelming the military while they were focused on gordon and black mesa

@TimothyParadox1 For one thing, humanity was reeling from the other after-effects of the Portal Storms, i.e. Xen wildlife teleporting in all around the world, forcing the vast majority of the human race to take shelter within their fortified cities...leaving them vulnerable. No one was prepared for the Combine invasion.

And who's to say the Combine armies that invaded the Earth didn't have worse than simple Striders. They ram-rodded us into surrender.

@Khyron56 Yes, but that's all the Combine is; a collection of thousands of alien races under the control of an unknown superior race -- thus the name, "Combine". Xen came threw the portal fleeing from the Combine after the Nihilanth was destroyed.

Basically it was mostly Striders and Hunters -- absolutely no Combine soldiers.

By the time the combine arrived, human were mostly bottled up in cities because of the xen creatures and portal storms, and the combine appeared everywhere at once. We were taken completely by surprise by an enemy that had resources from not only multiple planets, but multiple dimensions.
