try reinstall or ubuntu and remove the disc after installing ect ive found that ubuntu seems to be the most stable linux os the other have little problems with cretin hardware and other things so if you want to stick with mint try reinstall or use the recovery menu and the options it has to attempt to repair it and if not go download ubuntu

Thanks but the error happens trying to boot from LIVE CD not after install.
Any way I've managed to install Mint11: first installing Mint Debian Edition (which DID boot) and then upgrading.
