nice but you are not thinking about +100 million consumers in LA where there is not freezing winters. Unless their money is no good for your business.

I use copper tubing to transfer heat between the two waters ( house and zero pressure water ). I have never added the sand yet, as the extra weight on roof. Note that new copper tubing has copper manufacturing chemicals inside of the tubing that takes awhile to flush all of it out, before using the tubing for a shower. My system works good six months a year.

@trader0108 Have you got such a device.?

Good explaination of a basic domestic solar hot water heating system.

this video is awsome
it helps alot
thank you

I assume that the sand best for storing heat, is the one with a heavier weight as sand sinks to the bottom. Ask several library reference librarians this question. If you are going to keep it filled with water, think about protection from dangerous mold when the very hot summer temperatures are gone. It is best to keep the whole thing sealed air-tight, except when you are refilling it with water due to some evaporation caused by the higher temperatures ( particularly during the summer months ).

Is there a special kind of sand for this purpose? Is so, what is it? Is black sand better than white sand?
Do you have a video or still pictures of this kind of equipment?
Thanks for the idea.
only works in the summer?

It will work all year as long as there is sun, except in climates with severe cold which could freeze the water and damage the collector. It does have a freeze valve that opens and allows water to drip when temps get near freezing but this would not be safe enough in really cold winters. There are other types of solar water heaters that work in really cold climates.

Another method Two points of method: (1) Two waters, separated, zero pressure and house pressure, and (2) Use principle of heat-exchange to take heat from zero pressure to house pressure by running copper metal tubing with house pressure, inside the zero pressure water. The copper metal does a very good job of transferring the heat, and many times better than plastic or rubber. Mixing sand and water in the zero pressure water is probably better. Thin aluminum may contain the zero pressure water.

Thanks for the info - this sounds like a good idea!
