In honor of his "Walk For The Poor," NVLP presents this clip of pioneering activist James Meredith speaking about his 1966 "March Against Fear." To see more oral history interview clips with James Meredith, visit: http://www.visionaryproject.org/meredithjames
God bless you Brother James Meredith. You are an American Hero, Legend and Son of America. Yes he did graduate from an Ivy League School. Yes he did graduate from the lethal and racist Ole Miss U and yes he was a U.S. Airman in the Air Force who served this country. Malcolm X resurrected himself while in prison and then turned to the Nation of Islam which only expects the very best of their men. You will not hear ignorance from an FOI member. This man is 78 yrs old today. Please respect him.

Ivy league law degree from Columbia and not anywhere near as articulate or persuasive as Malcolm X who quit school at EIGHTH grade!

Seems like a hero to me.
.
I think, there is nothing worse than making innocent people (especially young people) feel afraid.

@JamesTKirkCobain The fact is the Republican party all too often will subtly appeal to racial politics, even against fellow Republicans. As recently as the 2000 Republican primary we saw Bush do this to McCain in South Carolina by having his campaign spread rumors that McCain had fathered an illegitimate black child, a rumor that helped sink his primary bid.

@JamesTKirkCobain Now I'm not saying Republicans are by definition racist. But by far the biggest Republican constituency aside from Evangelicals, are working class whites who had grown resentful from perceived government overreaching in promoting civil rights (i.e. forced busing, affirmative action, welfare, etc).

@JamesTKirkCobain Parties shift dude, and though Republicans freed the slaves, by the 50s and 60s they had formed a coalition with Southern Democrats, to oppose all attempts at integration.
By the 70s and 80s Republicans became the party of fear, subtly appealing to white racists through what Nixon called "The Southern Strategy". By the 1980s there was the War on Drugs, which overwhelmingly was conducted in inner city neighborhoods and in the 90s it was about eliminating welfare

Why doesn't Mr. Meredith explain that the majority of people who were giving him hell were registered Democrats? Not one single Repulican ever gave him trouble. Aubrey James Norvell who shot Merdith was a registered DEMOCRAT! I am so sick to death how Democrats constantly alter history when THEY are the ones who were responsible for every single racist incident in this country since this country was founded and they have everyone brainwashed by the Kennedys to believe the exact opposite!
