A great day of Kona Coast snorkeling on Hula Kai turned unforgettable by an extremely rare 40 foot long whale shark encounter... Folks...no special effects or editing on this video...it's REAL. Watch for the whole segment on an upcoming "Cookin' With Cutty" episode.

Whale sharks are the largest fishes on earth. Part of the shark family, they attain a length of (60ft) or more and weigh up to 34 tons (in comparison, a big elephant weighs up to 6 tons). Our visitor was docile, friendly and very curious...making sure to connect in some way with everyone who had the courage to jump in to the water with it.

There would be no adequate way to describe this experience...particularly for those of us (including some lucky kids as young as 6) who were blessed enough to swim side by side and look this beautiful creature straight in the eye and say...aloha.

  • Yeah, it's also a good idea not to touch them cause it's illegal and u can be fined upwards of 10 grand

  • beautiful, i hope one day i will witness this surreal experience :)

  • This is wonderful, thank you for sharing this!

  • They have this special saliva on their skin that keeps them healthy from germs in the water! So if you want to touch the whale shark I prefer not to because it might really damage them!

  • @666rogue666 You still shouldn't be touching them just because they don't harm you. YOu're still a potential threat to them, and it shouldn't be normalized to have your way with them just because YOU weren't harm. How nice for you.

  • @VeggieAshlie

    Completely harmless

  • @VeggieAshlie FUCK NO! They only eat plankton and krill, they'd nip at ya if you jerk their tails too hard or have food in your pants like in Jackass! (Bad news for Sheldon J. Plankton)!

  • They love humans

  • @animabi They allow people to ride on them all the time. They never attack, they will literally swim straight to you and just stay there, and if you touch it, it will remain still. Nothing to be afraid of unless you like bash it
