well he sang 8 roles in Vienna at the folksopera and prince igor in Chicago where a good friend of mine heard him and it carried just fine. Traviata at the Met.
His first singing was in the Chorus and then as a Jewish Cantor and later he held a post in Vienna before coming to the states. Wikipedia stares his name as Ignatz Greenberg (1904-1982)
Well a fiend of mine heard him in Chicago in Prince Igor many years ago and said it carried fine and was big enough in the huge house, 3,400 seats so in the right role his lyric Baritone was easily big enough.
Gorin always had a light voice. Here he sounds virtually a tenor. He made a career for himself on the radio where his pleasing quality of voice did not have to compete with the acoustics of a big opera house. He appeared only twice at the Met during his career. Many believe that he was really a tenor. I would not dispute that.
He's beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
