Two clips from the dramatic events of the New York State Assembly debates on abortion law repeal in 1969 and early 1970. Includes footage of Assemblywoman Constance E. Cook arguing that "I submit that we have abortion on demand in the state of New York right now. Any woman that wants an abortion can get one--if she has $25, she has it done here, under the most abominable circumstances," and that prohibition only drives abortion underground; and footage of Assemblyman George Michaels changing his vote, at the last minute, to break a tie and pass the bill, saying "I fully appreciate that this is the termination of my political career. But Mr. Speaker, what's the use of getting elected, or re-elected, if you don't stand for something?"
