Sonic 1 Megamix is a massive hack of Sonic 1. What started as just a simple palette and layout hack grew to a hack like this. Recently, however, it was discontinued, and the development team for it broke up.
This is the final version.
It's buggy, it has glitches, some things don't work the way that it should, and in some areas, you can get stuck in the walls.
It is also fantastically well made. As far has hacks go, this really shows how far you can take a game like this beyond it's original design. It never reached it's intended destination, but it still succeeded in being fantastic.

These videos are basically just a run through the various levels. I'm not trying to get all the emeralds or get there in record time, or even Let's Playing it. I'm just running through the levels for the fun of it (gasp).

City Outskirts is the new Spring Yard Zone. The tileset is unchanged, except that there are new labels in the background with the names of hackers in the Sonic hacking community.
This zone is a confusing labyrinth of spikes and springs. Lots of springs. There isn't much to say about this level, except that the choice in music is pretty grand.
Not entiedly tweaker is still working on it

Honestly, i thought version 3 was the best, due to its challenge. Version 4 seemed kinda toned down in favor of speed. Case in point, Dark Fortress Zone (v4).
