Grandmother of 20, Kathleen Evans, has spoken for the first time about her cancer survival which has been attributed to the miraculous intercession of Mother Mary Mackillop.
We seek knowledge too, but why did you leave that out? It is obvious that as our brains evolved we developed intelligence to the point of being able to ask questions. We asked these questions, and we seeked out answeres. We used what nature gave us. We seek truth in life because our brains actively required fuel, we seek happiness because when we are happy our brain creates chemicals that make us happy, so we seek that high. Beauty is subjective, so is value.
"Science cannot explain why human beings seek truth, happiness, beauty and the value and importance of these things for our life"
This is our biology, as we evolved as primates we became aware that we needed our fellow ape to survive in a climate and culture that was harsh, cold and boring. As apes we adapted to our surroundings and we evolved over millions of years to what we are today, superior beings with conscience.
Science can explain your question, with the help of psycology I think.
@chuckawobbly I am not trying to say that just because we don't know the scientific explanation for some things doesn't mean it doesn't exist. What I am however saying is that there are things which science cannot explain by its very definition. Science cannot explain why human beings seek truth, happiness, beauty and the value and importance of these things for our life. Science on the other hand can explain things that metaphysics cannot like chemical combustions or something else.
You are just fantacising. It is your choise to sit there in fantasy and throw crazy mythological ideas to fill the gap of human knowledge.
"Derrp science can't explain it, must be supernatural!". It is pathetic. You come across as an intelligent person too, which is a shame you lack logic and reason, it really is, perhaps one day you can accept the gap for what it is.
@chuckawobbly "That is a baseless, waterless statement" Actually most scientists will tell you that to try to prove the reliability of science by using the scientific method is simply arguing in a circle. And no, I am not invoking the God hypothesis for all that does not have a scientific explanation yet. I am however saying that some things cannot limit themselves to science and that they do require a supernatural explanation.
"even science itself cannot be justified by science alone." That is a baseless, waterless statement only you and other delusional people hold. Just because you fail to understand the natural world you think gawd didit. It is sad, really.
And you DO refuse to accept other possibilities, that is why you refuse to do so by putting one singular attribute: MAGIC.
I feel sorry for you, feel free to believe in fairy tales and desert myths, by all means, but do NOT go around telling people it as fact
@chuckawobbly The so-called "dark ages" was the medieval time of scientific revival in the west for your information and it is only thanks to the middle ages that we had Copernicus. As to what you said about my arrogance to accept another possibility. No, I just recognise that not everything can be reduced to the limits of science. Just as things such as value judgements, aesthetic judgements, mathematical proofs, logical proofs and even science itself cannot be justified by science alone.
That is a religous default you attribute to it, due to your ignorance and willfull arrogance to accept any other possibility. People like you are the reason we had the dark ages, you think because you don't understand it then it MUST of been God. I am glad people like Copernicus and Galileo came along. We would still be in the Dark Ages, with idiots such as your self.
@chuckawobbly Usually it is the case that something which is naturally inexplicable does not have a natural cause at all and requires a supernatural explanation. A miracle takes place when the supernatural intervenes in the natural realm. Thus a supernatural explanation is necessary to credit things which cannot by their very definition be limited to the boundaries of science. This is to say, even science is limited to what it can and cannot investigate.

Supernatural? Prove it. Your claim, prove it.

JUST BECAUSE THERE IS NO KNOWN SCIENTIFIC EXPLANATION AT THE MOMENT DOES NOT GIVE YOU OR ANYONE THE RIGHT TO SMACK A SUPERSTITIOUS DEFAULT ON IT
You people make me sick.
