They have not disgraced the ride. They've made it better!
The changes are mostly subtle and the ride is basically still the same.

It has to evolve. otherwise people will get bored. In fact i heard the movies saved the ride because there was a rumor they were gonna shut it down :( better to have a re furbished pirates than no pirates at all
