The bass drum pattern can be used for bossa nova AND samba. However, the clave he is using is the Son Clave used in Afro-Cuban music...it is not the bossa nova clave he's trying to emulate.
It is NOT samba, however...and there are various types of samba, partido alto...batucada samba, jazz-style samba, etc.

I think it helps when it isn't directed toward passionate playing.. thats for the other person to feel for them self..
Weather this guy CAN or CAN'T play passionately he had it broken down enough for a beginner to pay close attention to.

Its not even bossa I think, well at least He is playing on the snare the clave patern and well the clave on the bossa nova is a bit different the last beat is not in where it should be

they put up so much crappy drum-instructionals with mediocre players who, in the best case, just bang passionless and expressionless on a pattern, or often even teach incorrect playing.
