June 15, 2009, 150-music students gathered at the White House from DC public schools, New Orleans and elsewhere for workshops with Ellis, Branford, Wynton, Delfayo and Jason Marsalis, Stephen Massey, Todd Williams and Eli Yamin. Paquito D'Rivera performed in the East Room with a group of young musicians. This was the first ever jazz education event at the White House and the first in a series of educational events that demonstrate the importance of arts education to reinvigorate the creativity and innovation that has made this country great.
michelle is a dollar short and a lifetime behind. Then again without a backbeat it's just another rap.

Great observation.
And with all due respect Miss First Lady - I am tired of you and your husband already.
It is okay to work for a day without cameras. Try it.

Where are the Jazzwomen? After all, it's because of them that any of us know about jazz at all. The musicians usually accompanied the female jazz and blues singers. But there are none at this first jazz event in the White House. Are we continuing the good ole boy syndrome that has proliferated in jazz for the five decades?
