Temporarily drained to facilitate bridge repair, this man made marvel once powered the cutlery factory and paper mills along the banks of the river. It's amazing how many derelect mills stand in various degrees of utility here in New England. Every major riverway played host to scores of these hubs of manufacturing who relied on hydroelectric power to turn the turbines of their industry. Think of the high unemployment today and the homeless situation, then look at these mills with enterprising eyes and see if we can't figure a way to bring back a viable housing and manufacturing economic engine to fuel growth and prosperity again here in New England.
