Those of us who appreciate the great cultural history of Roman Church have watched with great interest the enthusiasms of the present Pope for bringing back the forms of the past. But his Mass today at Nationals Stadium showed that, beyond a few nods in that direction, the stultifying tedium that is Catholic liturgy presently will continue. How appropriate that he visited the Shrine, that monument of incredible bad taste. The Roman Church is left with dull regurgitations. Very sad.
