Chores during the winter can be somewhat of a challenge, with temps well below zero, we have to make sure all our cattle have extra food to ensure proper amounts of energy to keep themselves warm. In the winter I increase the level of milk-replacer each calf gets to ensure proper nutrition. Chores during the winter usually take longer, things freeze up, snow makes it harder to get around, but it doesn't matter if it's 50 below, we will always be out there putting our animals needs ahead of our own, as it is our responsibility to make sure they are well fed and cared for, especially when the weather is like this.

  • Aren't u lucky u can get a cappuchino and warm urself up? Poor cows I hope they r warm

  • How come you have calves born in the winter? Wouldn't they be warmer put in the same shelter? Just curious.

  • we don't see you much in the spring or the summer either

  • Ya got to love it at these times of the year. We have been having the same temps at our place in Utah this winter. Makes for some fun chores everyday. Keep it up !

  • Nicely shared! Staying warm when must be outside under such frigid conditions is not easy. How do you keep the milk or bottles that warm until the calves eat in the outside huts would also be good information for our public. You mention female (hiefer) calves, what of the male calves? To explain all that is involved in livestock care takes a huge amount of time, loads of videos while helps to educate our public and they hopefully learn rancher/farmers are not poor stewards rather most care!

  • very nice video

  • do u put the calves right into the ploy dome after they r born or do u put them under a heat and let em dry off for a day

  • damn how many calves you have there?

  • Look forward to your videos, great! wouldnt mind some cold at the moment, today was 100+F today with about 70% humidity

  • Hang in there about 3 more weeks. Find some big insulated boots & ware 3-4 layers of socks, your toes will feel your on hot beach sand. I raise steers, got the calves in the old stall barn.
