Lastly, try guided reading to focus on what's impt, Train them to write, pause & then prompt them to write key or impt words/phrases and give them time to do this, as well as time for reflection on what they wrote. On ur next mtg, review the notes and use as springboard for next lesson. That "everyone is enabling" a culture of failure is a huge jump in assumptions from what you've presented, when we teachers can properly motivate and empower students otherwise.

Interesting, but some huge assumptions were made. Why didn't students bring dictionary? None at home? No money to buy? Can't borrow? Forgot? Perhaps the flow chart should have been presented to motivate them better. Tests/appraisals are tools that help teachers measure learning, it's not exclusively a showcase of learning. Why not try other kinds of motivation? Fr your other video on food, you sound intimidating, words and inflection aren't motivating.

Those students, they don't want to.... learn, remember, show what they know, or be learning enabled! What is one to do but make a flow chart, thats what they must have been missing.
-
They are not a failure... you are. Give them a reason to learn, give them motivation. Its not that they don't realise the importance of learning its that they see no relevance in learning the subject.

nice analysis
They don't bring the dictionary becuase they forget to, not because they don't want to. Tell them a week easrlier, then the day before using.
Usually, kids of junior form are a little bit lazy.
In my point of view, just try not to make them hostile against you or all things will be difficult.

I was a bit difficult, but by the end of the year, most of the students respected me for caring enough to reveal the hidden curriculum to them.

what was the hidden curriculum?

The implicit learning from an activity, or the lack of an activity; for example, by selecting only boys to carry heavy books for a teacher, the implication is that girls cannot do any heavy lifting.

And I do believe laziness is a banal Chinese euphemism for poor habits and retarded life training; it doesn't matter how often a student is reminded to do homework if he hasn't internalized the micro-tasks necessary to accomplish this goal; it's a failure of a system of which I indeed am a part.
