  • Mr. Payton is a unique player and there aren't many out there.

  • I'm pretty sure his chops got damaged and that's why he no longer plays like he used to. I agree, he was incredible back then.

  • If CMU kids spent half as much time practicing as they did bitching and moaning, their words might actually carry some weight. You think you're giving Nick a bad name, but really you're only damaging your own reputation. Anyone with a brain knows 1 bad show doesn't mean shit. Get over yourselves and get over it... and go practice.

  • I never thought I'd be saying this in my entire life, but that was a badass bass cadenza.

  • its so funny to me that benson played on the original

  • killer tenor playing!!

  • This is wonderful, thanks for posting this

  • @jlevinson6 You know I said the same when I bought the his last album" Into The Blue"

  • @katiexxmusic everyones been talking about that. does anyone have video? he was so so at a festival I went to.

  • This is wild and delivers ... wonderful kick ass soloing ... what a player he was back then ...

  • @ksyalxe I'm sure he got stoned and messed up just to piss off the CMU guys. Or alternatively perhaps this cat needs understanding or help, not condemnation. Charlie Parker said: "If you don't feel it, it won't come out of your horn". I guess it won't be coming out of the CMU horns, then.

  • He was in a car accident. Do the research yourself. He has a nice website. I have a tremendous respect for this man.
