The silence after the concert was like "What was that?" It took a while until the audience started to applause. I think the audience was chocked, because it was so good. I was chocked too. It was an awesome performance with 100% feeling. And it doesn't matter that his voice vibarated a bit. He gave it all of his own soul. The lust for life! And that is what this aria is all about.

I had the great honour of being taken as one of Gedda and his wife's students in 1977, but due to the political situation in my country at that time I was turned down by the Swedish Institute for one of their bursaries. He was such a gracious man, always answered my letters in an old-fashioned flowing script and was most sympathetic when the bursary was declined. He remains one of my heroes of the 20th century and one of the finest tenors ever. Bravo Gedda!

@xcubus66 You are correct- the very greatest tenor ever.....!! - yes- ever impressive and ever true to the composer; a true genius; The Maestro- What emotion in this Cavaradossi piece without getting ' sloppy' - how many times do u think he has sung this , yet it sounds fresh, like a man in love about to lose his life!! - God Bless Gedda for his hard work to develop his talent, his gift itself and all the joy he has brought us!

@sugarbist Not laboring...he was older. There is another link of him doing it when he was much younger...check that one out. For his age at the time he did this particular concert, it wasn't bad.
